    Sarah Farnham,
ND class of ‘98 enters here 9th season as Head Coach of the Girls Varsity Soccer program.  Sarah’s place in ND soccer history dates back to her playing days. As a four year starter she led the Knights to four consecutive CIF appearances, while setting the school record for career goals (75) and school record in career assists (52).  Sarah not only was an All-CIF player but also a member of the ODP Regional Team. “Notre Dame was a great place to be a student-athlete the success of all programs during my time at ND was a secret to everyone’s drive to be the best we could be,” Sarah recalls.

After graduating Notre Dame in 1998 she went on to play under Jill Ellis at UCLA, where she became the second player in program history to record multiple assists in a single game.  Sarah was a member of UCLA’s first College Cup team that lost to North Carolina in the National Championship. Jill Ellis, now with the US Women’s National Team had this to say:  “Sarah was a valuable part of our program and instrumental in building UCLA's soccer tradition.  She was a talented, hard working player that understood the importance of being a great teammate.  I am certain Sarah brings her passion for the game and competitive spirit to her players.”

Since coming back to campus nine seasons ago she has led the Knights to four postseason births, sent ten players to the division one ranks. The Knights non-conference scheduling is often one of the toughest in the area. But building a program isn’t about just what the players contribute on the field for Sarah. The annual toy drive has given over 3,000 toys to underprivileged youth. This past summer eight of her girls volunteered their time at a youth sports camp for the Marines children at Camp Pendelton. “If all I do is teach soccer and focus on winning on the field then I have failed the girls that compete for me, “ says Sarah Farnham. “Notre Dame is about the community and learning to grow as a young woman.  My goal is that the community outreach, standards in the classroom, and hard work on the field helps develop these girls into confident leaders.”
