Traveling on a nationally-competitive team can be expensive. It is important to the school and the Director of Debate that travel opportunities be based on merit, not wealth. Therefore, in an effort to lessen student costs, the Notre Dame Debate Team holds a couple important fundraisers throughout the school year.

First, "A Movie Under the Stars" is an outdoor movie screening held in the Holy Cross Center Courtyard at Notre Dame. This event is held in September and past films have included The Wizard of Oz, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and The Hunger Games.  Please join us for this event in September.

Second, the JV/Novice Season Opener Debate Tournament in September hosts schools from the Southern California area in policy and Lincoln-Douglas debate. This one-day event is focused on helping younger debaters get some early debate experience. In addition, varsity debaters judge at this tournament, which empowers them to improve their leadership skills and strategic argumentation abilities. The debate tournament is generally held in the middle or end of September.

Lastly, the Knights Debate Team participates in the annual school-wide Walkathon. Students contact alumni and friends of the ND Debate Team throughout the year in an effort to raise money. Donations designated for debate will go to help students offset the cost of competing at national championship debate tournaments like the Tournament of Champions. Donations to the debate team can be made through the school Walkathon page here.

If you would like any additional information about these events, please email Christina Tallungan, the Director of Debate, at tallungan@ndhs.org.
