FRESHMAN CHRISTIAN SERVICE FOCUS

The Christian Service program at Notre Dame High School flows directly from the Mission of the school and the Expected Schoolwide Learning Results.  We are here to educate the hearts and minds of our students, to do as Jesus taught us to do, as described by Fr. Basil Moreau and the Congregation of Holy Cross.  The focus for the freshmen is the family.  While completing their 20 hours of service within the family, students will also reflect on what it means to be family and what their particular role in the family is.

Freshmen may complete their service hours by helping family members, including the extended family members, by such activities as tutoring a younger sibling, cousin, etc., helping an elderly relative (cleaning their home, doing their yard work, etc.), doing yard work for the immediate family, cooking dinner for the family (setting the table, cooking and cleaning up), helping a parent at work, or whatever other creative activities that would help out a family member in need.  Whatever a student selects to do it should not be a part of the usual chores a student may have in the home.

Freshmen may also complete their service hours with a family member outside of the home.  Such activities may include working at a soup kitchen, food bank, clothing distribution center, coaching a team a sibling may be on, or any other activity that a family member (or the whole family) may join in together that would provide a meaningful service to people in need.  Having said all this, sometimes students who come to ND are very involved in service projects that do not involve the family.  You may use the hours you do for this during your freshman year for your service hours.  Be sure to inform the Christian Service Director of what you are doing.

Service hours completed by freshmen prior to the first day of school is not accepted.  Summer service is reserved for sophomores, juniors and seniors.

FRESHMAN SERVICE HOURS, TIME SHEET AND REFLECTIONS SHOULD BE TURNED IN TO YOUR RELIGION TEACHER THE WEEK OF FEBRUARY 4TH THROUGH THE 8TH.
