SOPHOMORE CHRISTIAN SERVICE FOCUS
The Christian Service program at Notre Dame High School flows directly from the Mission of the school and the Expected Schoolwide Learning Results. We are here to educate the hearts and minds of our students, to do as Jesus taught us to do, as described by Fr. Basil Moreau and the Congregation of Holy Cross. The focus for the sophomores is the parish or the place of worship.
Students who are currently enrolled in a Confirmation program requiring service hours may use those service hours to fulfill the ND sophomore Christian Service requirement if they total at least 20 hours. Simply attending Confirmation classes does not fulfill the service requirement. While completing their 20 hours of service at the parish or the place of worship, students will reflect on what it means to be a member of a religious community and giving service to that community.
Sophomores who do not have a place of worship may ask a friend if they may join in with them at their place of worship. Sometimes it is difficult to find an opportunity at a place of worship. In that case, a student may choose to participate in any type of service to the larger community (community organization, walk-a-thon for a worthy cause, local library, etc.). Listen to announcements for service opportunities. Talk to Mr. De Silva about possible activities you would like to do.
PARENTS OR OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS MAY NOT BE THE STUDENT’S SUPERVISOR AFTER THE FRESHMAN YEAR.
SERVICE SHOULD BE COMPLETED AND ALL PAPERWORK TURNED IN NO LATER THAN THE WEEK OF FEBRUARY 19TH THROUGH THE 21ST
