WELCOME TO BAND CAMP 2012!

ALL MEMBERS OF BAND, DANCE/FLAGS AND INTRO. BAND ARE EXPECTED TO ATTEND.

This includes all students in the following classes: (Everyone enrolled in a band class)

BAND I – INTRO. BAND (Winds & Percussion), BAND II, BAND III, BAND IV AND DANCE/FLAGS

Below you will find information that you will need for Band Camp.  Camp involves everyone, so be sure that you read this notice carefully.

PLEASE FILL OUT AND BRING THE COMPLETED MEDICAL RELEASE FORM TO THE FIRST DAY OF CAMP.

BAND CAMP FOOD FEE

The Band Booster Club will feed the members during Camp.  Meals will include lunches and dinners as indicated above, and planned snack breaks.  In order to cover the expense of the food, there is a fee of $90.  Checks should be made payable to NOTRE DAME HIGH SCHOOL.  Please notate “Band Camp Fee” on your check.

Payments may be turned into Mr. Fuentes on the first day of Camp.  Please DO NOT send Band Camp payment to the school Business Office.

 

MEDICAL RELEASE FORMS

ALL MEMBERS MUST HAVE A COMPLETED BAND MEDICAL AND TRIP RELEASE FORM ON FILE IN THE BAND CENTER.  The form is enclosed; please FILL OUT BOTH SIDES and return the form to the Band Center the first day of Band Camp.  Please be sure to fill in both sides.  Please take time to print or write clearly so that all entries are clear and legible.

 

WHAT TO WEAR:
  • Comfortable clothes
  • Athletic style shoes; NO SANDALS, FLIP FLOPS OR OPEN TOE SHOES
  • (Dance/Flags – have dance shoes for dance sessions)
  • Light jacket for evening practice

For personal use you need to have:

                Sunscreen    Hat for sun protection

              Water bottle or thermos marked with your name will be allowed at outdoor rehearsals.

               

MUSIC LYRES

Except for Intro Band members, all wind instrument players will need to provide music lyres.  The school does not provide them.  If you are using a school instrument, you may have to wait until you have it to be sure that you buy a lyre that fits.  You may want to check out your local music store so you know where to go to find a lyre.  We will have periodic lyre checks.  It is your responsibility to have a lyre that fits your instrument.

 

ATTENDANCE

If, before Camp begins, you know of any conflicts, please notify us IN WRITING so that we   know where you are.  Band Camp is important to getting the year off to a good start.  ALL MEMBERS OF BAND, DANCE/FLAGS AND INTRO BAND ARE EXPECTED TO ATTEND.  If, after Camp begins, you are going to miss a rehearsal, or a portion of a rehearsal, please email Mr. Combes at combes@ndhs.org to let us know or call the Band Office at (818) 933-3672 and follow it up with a note in the Band Center note box.  Please notify us ahead of time, not after the fact.

 

If you have a summer job, please arrange your work hours so that you may attend Camp.  If you have job conflicts or team practices, notify and/or discuss them with Mr. Combes ahead of the conflict.  Since we have students who may be involved with team practices, please submit your practice schedule in writing to Mr. Combes.

Once you report to Band Camp, you may not leave campus without permission.  Exceptions must be supported by a written note signed by one of your parents.  The note must be turned in to Mr. Combes prior to your leaving campus.

 

TEAM PRACTICES

If you are on an ND team that is practicing during Band Camp, YOU NEED TO LET US KNOW YOUR SCHEDULE.  When applicable, we will hold a lunch or dinner for you; but we need to know ahead of time when you will be returning to camp.  In the kitchen area there will be a sign-up sheet for athletes’ meals so that parents will now which students needs meals and on which days.  You need to participate in both practice and Band Camp as much as your schedule will allow.  If you have questions about conflicts with team practices, talk to Mr. Combes.

PARENTS

We need some help with meals and snacks.  If you can help, please call or e-mail Linda Jackson @ 818-781-0471 or linda@jacksonland.com and let her know.

Band Boosters will be calling the current roster for donations of fruit, homemade cookies, and rice crispy treats.  We would also like to get donations of boxed or individual-serving fruit juice drinks.  These will be used during Band Camp snack times. During Band Camp you may bring your donations to the Band Center kitchen.

NEW MEMBER PARENT ORIENTATION

We will have an orientation for parents of new members of Band, Intro. Band and Dance/Flags.  It will be Monday night August 6.  Orientation will begin at 7:00 P.M. in the Lecture Hall, next to the Band Center.  A reception will follow in the Activity Center.  THIS IS AN IMPORTANT MEETING FOR PARENTS OF NEW BAND AND DANCE/FLAG TEAM MEMBERS.

 

WHAT DO I NEED?

 

Band members will need instruments and lyres.  Percussion, Dance/Flags and Intro. Band will just need to be present.  Equipment will be provided.  During Camp we will discuss what you need for home games, away games and parades.

 

SENIOR BEACH TRIP

 

Seniors attending the Senior Beach trip are expected to be in Band Camp until the busses load for the trip. Seniors not attending the Senior Beach Trip must attend Band Camp.

 

CELL PHONES        

Students may NOT use cell phones during rehearsals – NO EXCEPTIONS.  Cell phone rules at Band Camp are similar to rules during the school year.  Cell phones are to be completely out of sight during all rehearsal timesThe same rules apply to iPods and similar devices.
