ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING
As Back to Back CIF Champions, the 2013 girls’ golf team has big shoes to fill. We lost 2 very important seniors, but with the return of junior Kathryn Newton and senior captain Katelyn Reynolds playing some of her best golf, we are looking good. Fellow senior captain Vivian Markel, joins juniors Sammy Winchester ( competed at t he Optimist International Tournament at PGA National), Janet Yeo (had a strong summer playing in the Toyota Cup Tour) and Lauren Crittenden who has one of the best swings on the team. Sophomores Paige Hollingsworth and Alyssa Buzzello have progressed nicely and our new freshman, Kennedy Menefield will round out the team.
Each year we try to build on the successes of the past and find new ways to improve our game. We again worked out in the weight room in the off-season and spent a week in Ventura at bootcamp. We added laser focus grids and meditation to work on the mental side of the game. We know our attitudes are the one thing we can control and if we put our efforts into the process instead of the outcome, we will see the improvement we are striving for.

CHAMPIONSHIPS ARE BUILT IN THE OFF-SEASON
Last year the Varsity Girls’ Golf team experienced a new level of success. As CIF Champions (Northern Division), we have a lot to live up to and even higher expectations of ourselves as we begin the new school year. We bid farewell to our beloved seniors (3 out of the 4 are playing college golf) and welcome with open arms, 2 new freshmen-Paige Hollingsworth and Alyssa Buzzello.
The veterans worked hard in the weight room throughout the winter and spring months to increase strength and power. They also spent countless hours at the range, working on their putting, short game, and mental toughness as they spent week-ends at tournaments all over southern California. It is a yearlong commitment that the incoming freshmen have already bought in to what it takes to play golf at ND.
Preparation in the off season leads to confidence building in the pre-season. We will spend a week together at “Bootcamp” the first week of August where we will play 18/36 holes daily in Ventura County where most of the CIF competition takes place. After playing all day (walking, of course), we come back and work-out. We want to challenge ourselves so that when the match is on the line we have no doubts about ourselves or our team. We have added 2 more tough tournaments to our schedule so that we can compete against the top golfers in Southern California in preparation for CIF.
Thank you to the ND community for all the support and well wishes this past year. We are so excited to start playing as the 2012 Notre Dame Girls Golf Team and see where we can go this year.
