Middle School Camp and Enrichment 2023

The Middle School program offers a FULL-DAY enrollment which includes morning and lunchtime activities, morning and afternoon classes, and drop-off and pick-up supervision. 

All courses are taught in person. There are no online options.

To enroll in the full-day program, choose TWO classes to add to your cart AND choose the option for Full-Day. Classes are $250 each. There is no extra charge for the full-day option. Some classes have a materials fee, required materials, or special notes. Please read the descriptions carefully.  

Lunch will NOT be provided. Students must bring their own. Going off-campus or delivery ordering can not be accommodated.

If you do not want to participate in the full-day program, you may enroll for one class, but your student must be dropped off and picked up only 10 minutes before and after the class.

Debate Camp

Course Description: Does your son or daughter love to argue? Or do they want help shaking off shyness? Send them to train with the nationally and internationally competitive Notre Dame Debate Team! Students will work on logical thinking, research, and public speaking skills. Each student will also be able to show parents a video recording of their progress at the end of the camp and will participate in a culminating debate scrimmage at the end of the week. 
 
During this one-week camp, students will learn all the debate basics, including managing public speaking anxiety, identifying parts of an argument and techniques to respond effectively, delivering speeches purposefully with inflection, and researching credible support for cases. On Thursday, students will compete in a debate scrimmage at Notre Dame. On Friday, students will take a field trip to the Reagan Library in Simi Valley to apply their debate skills in a real-world simulation of presidential decision-making. Then they will present a final exhibition debate for a public audience. Parents are welcome to attend this field trip.

    Course Description: Students will get the opportunity to learn various cheers, dances, routines, and stunts. The course will culminate in students presenting the material they learned in a performance at the end of the week.

    This class is for students who have never learned Chinese or have minimum knowledge about Chinese Culture and Language! In this class, students will be singing, dancing, listening to music, and reading stories together!
  • AM-WK 1 | Poetry and Spoken Word

    Poetry and Spoken Word

    Spoken Word poetry is a type of poetry that is meant to be heard.  It has its roots in oral traditions and performance. It can encompass elements of storytelling, hip-hop, rap, and theater. In this workshop-styled enrichment course, students will learn how to create performance poetry designed to engage, entertain, and affect their audience. The week will end with a mini poetry showcase where all students are encouraged to participate. No experience is necessary.

    Learn the art of performing magic! This course will teach the basics of magic with an emphasis on card tricks.  Card manipulation and performance methods will both be taught.  This is taught as an introductory course.  No prior knowledge of tricks or techniques is required.

    Intro to Musical Theatre

    This workshop-style class will introduce students to the art and talent of musical theater. Students will participate in dancing, singing, and acting sessions and will present group and solo performances from the canon of musical theatre. A performance at the end of the week will be presented to showcase the work done throughout the class session.  
  • AM-WK 2 | STEM Bootcamp

    Course Description: Notre Dame High School is excited to offer a fun, interactive, educational STEM Boot Camp. The goal of this camp is to get students excited and interested in pursuing a field of study in STEM. The camp is designed to introduce students to the basic concept of CAD (Computer Aided Design) application so that students can digitally create 2D and 3D design simulations of real-world objects to optimize the design before manufacturing and  3D printing a design. Additionally, students will use electronic components to engineer and code with the Arduino microcontroller. The camp focuses on hands-on, project-based learning activities that provide students with excellent opportunities to begin exploring STEM courses that are being offered at Notre Dame High School.

    Robotics Camp is offered to middle school students, where students' creativity and imagination are brought to life as they learn how to design, build, and program a robot from scratch. Students will explore robotics while learning to think like engineers about electrical circuits, build power, as well as coding using a variety of levels of Java programming.

    This class is designed to introduce students to various cultural dances around the world. Students will be able to learn such cultural dances as line dancing, Folklorico, Irish dancing, the haka, square dancing, and much more! A performance will be presented at the end of the week, showcasing students' work.

This year’s summer art camp will help you gain confidence and encourage you to find your inner artistic voice. Students will spend one week learning the fundamentals of block printing and learning to apply the elements and principles of design through observation and in-class discussion.

Journalistic writing is storytelling, and in this class, you will learn how to ask the right questions, look for details, and find the story in any situation. You’ll learn to gather information effectively, organize ideas, edit your articles, and format your stories for publication using industry-standard software (Adobe InDesign), all in a safe and collaborative setting. Get ready to find the power of your voice!

    Course Materials: Students must purchase flash drives (32 GB min) to store files and photos. Prices range from $10 - $20.
