NDHS Congratulates Alumnus Rami Malek '99 on his Oscar Win
SHERMAN OAKS, CA. -Faculty and staff from Notre Dame High School are proud to congratulate alumnusRami Malek ’99on his Best Actor Oscar win for his portrayal of Freddie Mercury in “Bohemian Rhapsody.” Rami attended Notre Dame High School from 1995 through 1999, where he participated in the theater program, including a performance of “The Crucible,” in which he played the leading role of John Proctor.
“Notre Dame is extremely proud of alumnus Rami Malek '99 for receiving the 2019 Oscar for best actor,” said Notre Dame President Brett Lowart. “The love, determination and passion Rami has for acting has made his dreams come true. His teachers, many of whom still work at Notre Dame, are especially proud of his achievements. Our recently-retired Theater director, Judy Welden, worked for 29 years at Notre Dame bringing theater and acting to life for many students, including Rami. We are grateful to Judy and to our current Theater Director, Amanda Tepe, for making the performing arts possible for our students,” continued President Lowart.
Notre Dame High School has a rich arts program that seeks to provide students with the opportunity to explore and develop their creative talents through a number of mediums including visual arts, band, choir, dance and theatre.
