Holy Cross Helps Food Drive

During the weeks of February 4 – 8th and 11 – 15th Notre Dame High School ASB is sponsoring the Holy Cross Helps Food Drive to coincide with Holy Cross Week. Holy Cross Week is celebrated each year during the month of February and is designed to give the students of Notre Dame an appreciation for the special character of our Holy Cross Schools. Nationwide, there are a total of 8 universities and 16 high schools that are sponsored by the Congregation of Holy Cross and share the special bond of Holy Cross educational philosophy.

This year as a part of that celebration we are conducting the Holy Cross Helps Food Drive to benefit those in need. The winter months are especially difficult for those in need, and perhaps more so this year, with so many families affected by the recent government shutdown. Although the shutdown has ended, at least for the next few weeks, many of the families affected by the shutdown are still affected and scrambling to meet their needs. We ask your help for those families, and others affected by the increased demand being placed on agencies who support those in need, your generosity will help meet that demand.

On February 5th each student will receive a grocery bag with a list of suggested items to fill their bag with, as part of the Holy Cross Helps Food Drive in their seventh-period class. The goal is for each student to return the bag filled with the grocery items on the list and place it in the back of the Cafeteria sometime during the weeks of February 4 - 8th and 11 - 15th. Suggested List of Items for the Holy Cross Helps Food Drive:
  • canned beans 
  • low-sodium pasta sauce 
  • dry beans 
  • popcorn kernels (not microwave popcorn) 
  • peanut butter, or other nut butters
  • canned stews 
  • rolled oats 
  • unsweetened apple sauce 
  • canned fruit in juice, not in light or heavy syrup 
  • whole grain, low-sugar cold cereals 
  • olive or canola oil 
  • canned vegetables, with no or low-sodium 
  • canned tomatoes 
  • low-sodium soups 
  • dried fruits, no sugar added 
  • canned tuna in water 
  • honey brown rice
  • chicken, beef and vegetable broths and stock 
  • quinoa 
  • nuts, unsalted 
  • seeds, unsalted 
  • shelf stable milk and milk substitutes 
  • whole grain pasta
