Long-time Notre Dame Football Coach Joe McNab has announced he will be retiring from the football program. McNab has spent the last 41 years helping build the Knight program and helping lead Notre Dame to become a Southern California powerhouse. McNab joined Notre Dame in 1981, where he was hired as the Head Junior Varsity Football Coach and a teacher. In just his second year, he was promoted to the Varsity Defensive Coordinator and named the Head Coach in 2019. McNab has helped lead Notre Dame to 18 league titles and four CIF Football Championships. Coach McNab has guided many Notre Dame athletes to collegiate and professional careers. While at Notre Dame, Joe McNab has built a versatile resume, teaching theology, physical education, history, and working as a counselor. Throughout the years, McNab has remained true to the charism of Holy Cross on and off the field. Joe McNab will remain a Notre Dame faculty member and will continue to lead the Men's and Women’s Track Programs. Coach McNab has won 10 CIF Track and Field Championships and a State Track and Field Championship. Joe is a member of the Notre Dame Athletic Hall of Fame and the California High School Track and Field Hall of Fame. “Coach McNab has played a huge part in so many young football players’ lives over the last 40 years, including mine,“ said Athletic Director Alec Moss. “I think I speak for everyone in saying thank you to Coach McNab for his dedication to this school and his program.
