In a statement yesterday, January 19, 2021, CIF-SS Commissioner Rob Wigod announced that all 2020-2021 Fall Sports Championships are canceled due to the COVID pandemic. In the release, CIF cited the lack of progress from the Purple tier towards the Orange tier necessary to allow schools to complete league seasons and playoff seasons. As a result, CIF made the decision to cancel the playoffs that they control, in the hope that the additional weeks now available during the Fall Sports season will be useful to schools in the effort to have regular season league competition for our student-athletes.
With this announcement, Notre Dame remains hopeful that along with other league schools we will be able to begin fall competition. Athletic Directors representing each of our Mission and Sunshine league schools will begin working on game schedules that can be adapted to fit the months remaining in the fall athletic season for Boys/Girls Cross Country, Football, Girls Volleyball and Boys/Girls Water Polo. Our student-athletes will continue to be given the opportunity to train safely on campus with their coaches and teammates in preparation for the day when games can begin.
We will continue to follow the guidelines distributed by the California Department of Public Health, and the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.
