National Hispanic Heritage Month

Our Lady of Guadalupe, the Patroness of the Americas is represented on Notre Dame's campus in several different locations.

Today, September 15, marks the beginning of Hispanic Heritage month which continues until October 15.

Morning announcements throughout this month will celebrate the histories, cultures, and contributions of Hispanics in the US with ancestors from Spain, México, the Caribbean, and Central, and South America.

September 15, 16, and 18 have historical significance for many Spanish-speaking countries in the Americas. September 15 is the anniversary of the independence from Spain for Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Whereas Mexico's Independence Day is September 16 and Chile's is on September 18.
