Saturday Band

Saturday Band Program for Grades 4-8

As a way of supporting music for youth, Notre Dame High School offers weekly music lessons for students in grades 4 to 8 for a monthly fee of only $20.00. The classes are one hour and take place on Saturday mornings from September through June. Two class levels are available: Beginning Band is for those with no experience, and Squires Band is for students who already play an instrument.

Since 1980, Notre Dame High School has sponsored a band program for elementary and junior high school students. The cost of the lessons are subsidized by the Notre Dame Band Booster Club. Parents must supply the student’s instruments, but there is an instrument rental program available. Both Beginning Band and Squires Band students perform two concerts during the year for parents, friends, and family — a holiday concert in December and a spring concert in June.

“As a band director, I believe in the power of music and the positive effects that playing in an ensemble has on young minds socially, emotionally, and academically,” said Notre Dame High School Band Director Jason Arnold. “Our Elementary Band Program teaches students in the community to learn a woodwind, brass, or percussion instrument. It is a great opportunity for those students whose school doesn't offer an instrumental music program. For those students who already play a band or percussion instrument, the program offers them the experience of rehearsing and performing with new musicians in a new ensemble."

The Saturday Band Director is Mr. Jason Arnold, who also teaches wind instruments.  The percussion teacher is Mr. Sean Valentine.

Beginning Band Orientation and Registration is on the 3rd Saturday in September, where students can participate in an “Instrument Petting Zoo” in which they try out a variety of different instruments to see which one they would like to learn. Squires Band begins on September 10th from 9 am - 10 am, and registration is ongoing after that.
