College Counseling

Welcome to College Counseling

At NDHS, our college counselors provide ample support and information for parents and guardians of our college-bound seniors.

Once assigned a college counselor, students have access to essay workshops, UC/CSU application sessions, over 125 campus visits from college admissions representatives, and our annual college fair. Our counselors also meet individually with seniors to help them complete applications, proofread their essays, assist them with the financial aid process, navigate scholarships, and write customized letters of recommendation for each senior.

In the spring of sophomore year, the counseling department holds a college admissions night presentation. There is one formal parent college information meeting held in the spring semester of junior year and one meeting held during the fall semester of senior year. An additional meeting about financial aid for college is also provided to senior families in the fall. College counselors also sponsor monthly parent breakfasts throughout junior and senior year where they meet informally with small groups of parents to discuss college-related issues and answer questions.

    • Thursday, March 24, 6:00 p.m: College Knowledge Night (Virtual, link will be emailed)

Parent Coffee Sessions are optional sessions to allow parents to have the floor to ask questions and receive immediate feedback from the counselors in an informal, comfortable setting. There is no set agenda. Attendance is not mandatory, and parents may come/leave when they need to as their schedule allows. Check “Mark Your Calendars” (above) to see the details.   If you are unable to attend and do have questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to your child's counselor directly - we are here to help!
  • Transcripts

Seniors, mid-year (7th semester) transcripts will be sent by your counselor this week once grades, GPAs, and transcripts are finalized and updated. You do not need to do anything to request them - your college counselor will do this as part of our process. Any and all colleges that you are applying to must be included in your “Colleges I’m Applying To” list in Naviance in order to have your transcript and other documents sent. Be sure to update your decisions in Naviance as you receive them.

All students, if you are in need of an additional transcript for scholarship programs, recruiters, coaches, NCAA, etc., you may access/download/print your unofficial transcript anytime from NetClassroom
  • College Knowledge Night

Sophomore and Junior families are invited to join us for a virtual evening of college exploration and knowledge on Thursday, March 24. You will have the opportunity to join various sessions on college financial aid, majors and careers, HBCUs, college essays, visual/performing arts in college, UCs, and so much more. More information will be emailed closer to the event date.
  • Naviance

We encourage students to make use of the Naviance College Exploration System during summer. Rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors should take every opportunity to acquaint themselves with the extensive Naviance resources that are available, including career exploration tools and college choice management tools. Naviance also offers FREE SAT and ACT practice for those who plan to take the tests. Seniors should focus on researching schools, and narrowing down their choices to a reasonable list of colleges to which they will apply in the fall.

Seniors should focus on continuing to explore schools, attending virtual ND rep visits, narrowing down their college list, and finishing their essays. ALL SCHOOLS that you are applying to MUST be added to your “Applying to List” in Naviance. We will be unable to send documents to colleges on your behalf if they are not on this list.
